The IP phones attempt to register with the other CallManagers in the redundancy group before attempting the registration with the SRST router. So, the fallback process to the SRST router could take longer if other CallManagers are in the IP phone's redundancy group. SRST provides the basic call handling and minimal features to the IP phones during the WAN failure. Without this feature, the IP phone users at these locations would not be able to make outside calls. When the WAN link comes back online, IP phones detect the keep-alive acknowledgements from the CallManager and attempt to re-home back to the CallManager servers.
